Dr. Gillette’s research program uses a combinatorial approach to investigate how cell communication within the bone marrow microenvironment serves to regulate healthy and malignant hematopoietic stem cells. Their goal is to identify molecules and mechanisms that can be directly targeted to 1) improve regenerative stem cell therapies and 2) treat the progression of specific cancers. Their current focus is elucidating the contribution of tetraspanin membrane scaffolds as multi-scale regulators of the membrane protein network, which impacts stem cell adhesion, migration, survival and activation.
