The Milken Institute released their 2020 State Technology and Science Index (STSI), which compares each U.S. state’s capacity for achieving prosperity through scientific discovery and technological innovation. New Mexico ranked 18th overall, rising six places since the 2018 index.
The index aims to provide a benchmark for evaluating the knowledge economies of all U.S. states, using data collected from U.S. federal government and private-sector sources. States are ranked in five sub-indexes, including; research and development inputs, risk capital and entrepreneurial infrastructure, human capital investment, technology and science workforce, and technology concentration and dynamism.
