Frank H. Martínez, 77, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and community servant, supporting local projects such as the Lobo Rainforest.
Born on May 27, 1947, in South Martineztown, Albuquerque, Frank was the 14th of 16 children. He graduated from Albuquerque High School, earned a bachelor’s in history and a master’s in public administration from the University of New Mexico, and furthered his studies at Harvard University.
Frank’s career was diverse, including roles as Executive Director of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority and the Albuquerque Urban Coalition. He was a key figure in opposing the city’s plans to condemn Martineztown and played a crucial role in its preservation and development over the decades. His work included supporting affordable housing, local schools, parks, and various community projects. Frank’s vision and advocacy extended to the surrounding area by leading the effort to decommission the neighborhood’s super fund designation, securing capital outlay funds from the State of New Mexico and City of Albuquerque as well as private sector investments for such projects as the Lobo Rainforest, WESST, Innovate ABQ, the Broadway Corridor, and the Rail Trail.
Frank’s legacy of dedication and love for his community has brought lasting change to the city of Albuquerque and the Martineztown neighborhood.
