UNM Rainforest Innovations

UNM Rainforest Innovations (UNMRI), the University of New Mexico’s technology transfer and economic development organization, has seen increased growth in several metrics during fiscal year 2026 (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026).

During the fiscal year, UNMRI saw increases in intellectual property development, receiving 103 invention disclosures and filing 61 new U.S. patent applications. Additionally, there were 36 U.S. patents issued for UNM Rainforest Innovations.

Commercialization activity from this past fiscal year included 36 option/license agreements with new startups and established companies, and the creation of 7 new startup companies founded on UNM technologies.

Total income (approximately $6.4 million) is diversified to include license income, patent cost reimbursement, the Cecchi VentureLab program, and others.
