The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech) has a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) with the Air Force Research Laboratory to facilitate joint projects and accelerate technology transfer between the lab and private companies. UNM Rainforest Innovations recently received a PIA subaward to support technology transfer activities and promote technologies from AFRL’s Directed Energy and Space Vehicles Directorates. Through the PIA subaward, UNMRI will assist with the intellectual property management, conduct market research, and connect AFRL with companies interested in commercializing their technologies.

About UNM Rainforest Innovations:
UNM Rainforest Innovations (UNMRI) is the technology transfer and economic development organization for the University of New Mexico (UNM). We protect and commercialize technologies developed at UNM by filing patents and copyrights and transferring them to the marketplace. We connect the business community (companies, entrepreneurs, and investors) to these UNM technologies for licensing opportunities and the creation of start-up companies. Our vision is to play a vital role in New Mexico’s economic development and to be a leader in technology commercialization. Under the leadership of CEO and Chief Economic Development Officer Lisa Kuuttila, we are substantially growing our program using the Rainforest model to develop an innovation economy in New Mexico.
